Dublin to the Wild Atlantic Way and Back

This is a "one time only" tour and will not be scheduled again

We will start in Dublin and after a few stops will travel along the Wild Atlantic Way before returning to Dublin for our flight home.

Highlights include the world famous Cliffs of Moher and drive along some of the most beautiful sea views in Ireland. We will visit villages with collections of quaint cottages and lots of Irish history and culture, meet the locals, taste local cuisine and embrace the traditions of the area. Castles, castles and more castles and no matter how dilapidated, they are still incredible to behold. In addition to local historical and cultural sites, we will visit local potters, weavers, glass workers, woodcarvers and others to see how their products are handmade.  

This small group tour will be limited to a maximum of 14 travelers. A wonderful local driver/guide with her own Mercedes Sprinter fitted with individual captain type seats has been arranged.

ITINERARY
Monday, May 30

Travel Day - take an overnight flight to Dublin.  Ideally plan to make connections through Philadelphia for arrival in Dublin at 8:55 am. 

Tuesday, May 31 
Arrive in Dublin and taxi over to our hotel to drop off our luggage.  Pick up your OPW Card which will geet you into many FREE sites during our travels.  Today you will have time to explore Dublin at your own pace or relax from your overnight flight.  Our hotel is located across from St. Patrick's Cathedral and within walking distance of the Temple Bar area for eating and shopoing, the Dublin Castle (OPW), Christ Church Cathedral, St. Stephen's Green, the Iveagh Gardens, the National Gallery, and the Museum of Archaeology.  More information on things to do will be provided when you sign up.  All meals are on your own.

Wednesday, June 1 (B)
Breakfast at the hotel.  Driving tour with our private driver/guide of the city with stops at Trinity College / Book of Kells; Guiness Storehouse tour and tasting and Kilmainham Gaol.  We will also cover Merrion Square, Georgian Dublin; Phoenix Park, O'Connell Street and Dublin Castle Gardens.

Thursday, June 2  (B,L)

After breakfast at the hotel we drive from Dublin to Jerpoint to visit the Jerpoint Abbey and Jerpoint Studio for glassblowing and woodworking demonstrations.  After lunch we continue our drive to Kilkenny where we will visit the Kilkenny Castle, a 12th century medieval castle that was remodeled in Victorian times and surrounded by 50 acres of grounds, including rolling parklands, a riverside walk and formal gardens.  Balance of the day will be free time and dinner is on your own.

Friday, June 3 (B,L)

After breakfast we will visit the amazing Rock of Cashel.   The Rock of Cashel, formally St. Patrick’s Rock, is also known as Cashel of the Kings.  The Rock is a spectacular group of medieval buildings on a rocky outcrop of limestone, above the town of Cashel.  Lunch in Cashel and then a pottery making demonstration at Rossa Pottery.  Travel to Killarney and balance of the day will be free time and dinner is on your own.

Saturday, June 4 (B,L)

Breakfast at the hotel.  First stop is Kerry Woollen Mills, one of the last surviving traditional woollen mills still manufacturing in the beautiful Kerry countryside.  For almost 300 years Kerry Woollen Mills, situated on the beautiful ring of Kerry on Irelands’ wild Atlantic coast has been creating fabrics and yarns from natural fibres. A tour of the mill is visual, educational and fun. It follows the path from opening of the wool fleece, teasing, dyeing, carding, spinning, weaving and finishing. Walking through the mill you are surrounded by colourful wool, yarn and fabrics.  At the family run Kerry Oyster we will learn what goes into creating the perfect Oyster. During the farm tour Liam and Breda will teach us the various steps, equipment and methods we use to nurture our oysters from seed to market.  You will be invited to select your own oysters directly from the sea and learn how to shuck your oysters before enjoying a testing in the seaside surroundings. In the afternoon we will either take a walk along the beach or vist the Gap of Dunloe.   Dinner on your own.

Sunday, June 5 (B,L)

Breakfast at the hotel.  Today will be spent at the Killarney National Park, visit the Torc Falls, take a Jaunty Cart Ride from the falls via the lake to Muckross Abbey and Muckross House to see weavers and potters in action.  Next is a visit to Ross Castle and a Lake Boat Ride.  Dinner on your own.

Monday, June 6  (B, D)
Breakfast at the hotel.  This morning we start the drive around the Ring of Kerry with stops along the way at Ladies View, Kenmare Lace Heritage Center, Skellig Chocolate and a candy making demonstration, they on to Bray Head on Valentia Island for views of the Skellig Islands.
OVERNIGHT - Glenbeigh Lodge includes a 3 course dinner.
Tuesday, June 7 (B, L)
Breakfast at the hotel.  This morning we drive from Glenbeigh to Inch Beach and stretch our legs with a nice walk on the beach, then on to Dingle.  Tour and tasting at the West Kerry Brewery and a visit with Sean Daly - Master Crystal Cutter will wrap up our day and give you free time to explore Dingle.  Dinner on your own.

Wednesday, June 8 (B)
Breakfast at the hotel.  Today we will explore the Dingle Peninsula along the Slea Head Drive with several stops along the way.  The Slea Head Drive is a circular route, beginning and ending in Dingle, that takes in a large number of ancient & megalithic attractions as well as offering stunning views on the western end of the peninsula. This afternoon is the drive from Dingle to Doolin with free time to explore the town's many pubs showcasing local musical talent.

Thursday, June 9 (B, D)
Breakfast at the hotel.  Today we visit the Cliffs of Moher and O'Brien's Tower, the Burren Smokehouse with a sampling of smoked salmon, the Burren Center and a Burren Nature Walk.  OUR GROUP FAREWELL DINNER WILL BE TONIGHT
OVERNIGHT - The Fiddle and Bow in Doolin.
Friday, June 10 (B)
Breakfast at the hotel. This morning we visit Poulnabrone Dolman, the Burren Perfumery and watch the Sheepdog Trials.  Our final stop is Caherconnell Stone Fort before we leave the Burren region for a our drive back to Dublin.

Flight back to the USA.   Group transportation for a morning departure.
