Mexico City & Puebla, Mexico

DAY 1: ​ (D)

Upon arrival in Mexico City, you will make your way via taxi to the hotel.   You will have free time to wander around until our group dinner. Overnight in Mexico City.

DAY 2: (B,L)

After breakfast at the hotel, our first stop of the day is Casa Azul which was the house where Frida Kahlo grew up. It is now a museum where you can see original paintings from her and Diego Rivera.  Next we will head to the Mercado de Coyoacan. Lunch will be at a restaurant near the Plaza de Coyoacan. We continue our journey in Coyoacan with visits to the San Juan Bautista Church and Convent one of the oldest temples of the Valley of Mexico, as well as the Conchita Chapel, which is considered a jewel of baroque art. Walk the Plaza de Coyoacan and enjoy the Coyote sculptures in the square.  Later in the afternoon we will head to Xochimilco for a boat trip along the “floating gardens’ while we listen to the Mariachi musicians. Balance of the day is free time. Dinner on your own. Overnight in Mexico City​.

DAY 3: (B,L)

Today we will spend the entire day at Chapultepec Park and the surrounding area and there is so much to see.  Highlights today will include, the National Museum of Anthropology, the Castle and National History Museum, the Botanical Garden and Zoo.  Lunch will be in the Park and for those adventurous travelers, you can rent a paddle boat for a ride around the lake.  Dinner on your own and overnight in Mexico City.

DAY 4: (B,L)   

After breakfast we are scheduled to visit the Historic district, The National Palace with the famous murals of Diego Rivera. In ancient times, Mexico City was called Tenochtitlan and an estimated 250,000 Aztecs lived here making it the largest city in the world. The remains can be seen when we visit the Templo Mayor next to the Zocalo (the main square). We will also visit the Cathedral. Afternoon will be free time in Mexico City.  Dinner on your own and overnight in Mexico City.

DAY 5: (B,L) 

This morning we leave the hotel and head to the most important church in Mexico City – the Basilica of Guadalupe, the patron Saint of Mexico who is visited by millions of Mexicans every year.  Next stop is Teotihuacan, where you can climb several of the smaller pyramids. Teotihuacan was constructed between 200 BC and 700C by an unknown tribe that we later called the Teotihuacanos. The Aztecs adopted the name, “The City of Gods”. The temple Quetzalcoatl, the Pyramid of the Sun and the Temple of Quetzalpapalotl are just a few examples of what you can expect to see there. You need good walking shoes today.  Dinner on your own and overnight in Mexico City.

DAY 6:  (B,L) 

Today we leave Mexico City for our drive to Puebla. We begin our time in Puebla with a walking tour of the city which includes the Palafoxian Library, Rosary Chapel, Cathedral, El Parian artists area, Candy Street and Talavera Street. We will have lunch along the tour route and continue through the city streets to finish our tour. After checking into the hotel, you will have free time to explore the city. Dinner on your own. Overnight in Puebla.

DAY 7:  (B,L)

We start the day with a visit to Zacatlan located in the Sierra Norte regions of Puebla and known for its tile & glass murals, its production of apples and other fruits that are made into wines and ciders and the clock tower in the main square.   A tasting of some of these wines is on the agenda. Lunch along the way before out next stop of Chignahuapan.  We will walk around Chignahuapan and visit the Basilicia of the Immaculate Conception which has the biggest figure of the Virgin Mary in Latin America, then on to Santiago Apostal Church to see its incredible mudejar style and a visit to a Christmas ornament workshop to see how these wonderful blown ornaments are made.  Dinner on your own.   Overnight in Puebla.

 

DAY 8: (B,L)

Today’s schedule will include: Ixtenco a small village in the Mexican state of Tlaxcala to visit the workshop of one of the Otomi ebmroiderers who are known for their smocking techniques. Lunch along the way.  In the afternoon we are planning a visit to another weaver's workshop and an Artensal Boutique in the town of Tlaxcala.  Dinner on your own and overnight in Puebla.

DAY 9:  (B,L,D)

Today’s schedule will include: Cholula Archaeological Site and Museum including touring the Lunch along the way and hope to find some good Chiles de Nogada. Our final stop will be the Archaeological site of Cacaxtla.  We will drive back to Mexico City for our Farewell Group DInner Overnight in Mexico City.

 

DAY 10: (B)

Time to head home. The hotel will assist in arranging for taxis to pick you up at the hotel and take you to the airport.
