This small group tour has it all – history, culture and a small taste of  local crafts. We will spend time in Edinburgh before we head towards the Scottish Highlands traveling beside Loch Lomond to Glencoe.  Along the way, we will take in incredible scenery, visit castles and historical sites.  We have the opportunity to visit some special places that will allow you to immerse yourself in this wonderful country and culture.  This adventure goes beyond the typical tourist path, offering a deep dive into Scotland's rich heritage, stunning natural beauty, and warm hospitality. Embrace the essence of true Scottish life, making connections and memories that will last a lifetime.

 

We have our own personal driver and guide with us during the entire tour and will travel in a comfortable “Sprinter” type of van. Discover breathtaking sights with a knowledgeable guide and a dedicated driver who will share their love of the country as well and provide engaging stories about the history and culture of the region.

NOTE:  this tour is packed with a lot of daily activities and should be considered a moderately activity level.  There will be days when you will need to be able to walk 2 – 3 miles over cobblestones and uneven terrain. This tour is not for those with mobility and limited walking issues or major health issues.

Monday, June 2 (D)    

Arrive in Edinburgh.  Transportation from Edinburgh Airport to the hotel in Edinburgh. Welcome to Edinburgh, capital of Scotland. On your arrival day, you have free time to explore the city's history and vibrant streets at your leisure and prepare for a journey filled with history, architecture and culture.  Explore quaint shops, pubs and street performers along the way. Indulge in traditional Scottish cuisine or relax in Princes Street Gardens, enjoying the city’s beauty. We will meet at a designated time in the hotel lobby for an initial meet and greet before we head out for our Group Dinner.  Dinner included.  Overnight in Edinburgh.

 

Tuesday, June 3 (B)

There is no better way to see this iconic location than through the eyes of someone who calls it home.  Prepare to experience Edinburgh like no one else and create unique memories in the city of a thousand tales.  Wander along the iconic Royal Mile, home of historic landmarks and the St. Giles Cathedral.  We will explore Edinburgh Castle, the historic fortress perched on Castle Rock, marveling at the Crown Jewels and the Stone of Destiny while enjoying panoramic city views.  Then on to Holyrood Palace, the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland, exploring the opulent State Apartments, the beautiful Holyrood Abbey and stroll through the palace gardens with the backdrop of Arthur's Seat.  Experience the charm of Duddingstone – one of Edinburgh’s oldest neighborhood’s with some buildings dating back to the 12th century.  Tour Royal Yacht Britannia, the former royal yacht, discovering luxurious cabins, the Royal Deck Tea Room and the yacht’s fascinating history.  Lunch along the way and balance of the day is free.  Dinner on your own.  Overnight in Edinburgh.

 

Wednesday, June 4 (B)

Journey through Templar history and literary legacies: a Scottish exploration.  Embark on a captivating journey, following Templar Knights and Cistercian monks, immersing in Scottish literary history and exploring grand stately homes, culminating in a visit to UNESCO listed New Lanark.  We begin our journey by uncovering the mysteries of the Rosslyn Chapel, famous for its intricate carvings and intriguing connection to the Knights Templar. Wander through the ruins of Melrose Abbey, this majestic 12th century abbey is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and the final resting place of Robert the Bruce's heart.  We will explore Abbotsford House, the home of Sir Walter Scott, immersing ourselves in the literary legacy and beautiful gardens of this iconic Scottish writer. In the afternoon, we will conclude todays journey at Lanark Village and Lanark Spinning Company, with a tour to gain insights into Scotland's industrial heritage and the traditional art of spinning. Dinner on your own.  Overnight in Edinburgh.

 

Thursday, June 5 (B,L)

Today we say goodbye to Edinburgh and head into the Highlands, embarking on a journey through some of Scotland's most iconic landscapes and historic sites. Explore the magnificent fortress of Stirling Castle, one of Scotland's grandest castles, steeped in history and offering stunning views over the surrounding countryside. Of course, we need to visit the towering Wallace Monument, commemorating the legendary Scottish hero William Wallace.  We will immerse ourselves in the breathtaking beauty of Loch Lomond, Scotland's largest freshwater loch with its picturesque shores and tranquil waters. Today, our travels conclude with the awe-inspiring landscapes of Glencoe, a valley of dramatic beauty and historical significance in the Scottish Highlands.  Dinner on your own.  Overnight in Glencoe.

 

Friday, June 6 (B,L)

Our experience today takes us through stunning Scottish landscapes on our way to Isle of Skye. Today we will start our day in the bustling town of Fort William, known as the gateway to Ben Nevis and the surrounding Highlands. We will enjoy the inspiring views of Ben Nevis, the UK's highest peak. Next stop at the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct to visit this famous railway viaduct, renowned for its appearance in the Harry Potter films. In the afternoon we catch the ferry from the town of Mallaig to the Isle of Skye where we will be staying for the next several days. Enjoy the scenic crossing and get ready to explore the Isle of Skye. Dinner on your own.  Overnight on Isle of Skye.

 

Saturday, June 7 (B,L)

Today we immersre ourselves in the beauty of the Isle of Skye. The colorful buildings and stunning waterfront of the charming harbor town of Portree. As we make our way around Isle of Skye, we stop at the Skye Weavers, a small weaving and sewing business that uses a bicycle pedal-powered loom to weave a variety of woolen products including scarves, blankets and  throws.  We stop at Kilt Rock and take in the dramatic cliffs and the cascading waterfall, then hike to the towering rock formation of Old Man of Storr with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Next, we step back in time at The Museum of Island Life that showcases the traditional way of life on Skye.  Visit Lealt Waterfall, a hidden gem nestled in the rugged landscape. Discover the magical Fairy Pools, known for their crystal clear waters and enchanting surroundings. At the Sligachan Bridge, take in the picturesque views of the Cuillin mountains from this historic bridge.  We end our day at the dramatic Neist Point Lighthouse, perched on the cliffs with spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean.  Dinner on your own.  Overnight on Isle of Skye.

Sunday, June 8 (B,L)

We continue to explore all that the Isle of Skye has to offer.  Discover beautiful handmade ceramics at Uig Pottery Studio, taking in the artistry and craftsmanship of the local potters. Explore Dunvegan Castle and Gardens, the historic home of the Clan MacLeod, set amidst stunning gardens and offering fascinating insights into the island's history. Tour the renowned Talisker Distillery, experiencing the process of whisky making and sampling some of Skye's finest single malts.  If time allows, we will stop by Torabhaig Distillery, a newer distillery for a tour and tasking adding another layer of your whiskey experience on Skye.  Dinner on your own,  Overnight on Isle of Skye.

 

Monday, June 9 (B,L)

Bid farewell to Skye and return to the mainland, embarking on a journey through some of Scotland's most iconic and picturesque locations on our way to Inverness. On the schedule today are castles and finding Nessie.  Begin our day with a visit to Eilean Donan Castle, a picturesque castle set on a small island, where three lochs meet, offering stunning views and a glimpse into Scotland's rich history. Explore the mysteries of Loch Ness at the Loch Ness Centre, an informative visitors center, learning about the history, geology and legends of the area. We will enjoy a scenic boat ride on Loch Ness keeping an eye out for the elusive Nessie. A visit to the ruins of the  historic Urquhardt Castle, perched on the shores of Loch Ness, offering panoramic views before we head to Inverness.  Dinner on your own.  Overnight in Inverness

 

Tuesday, June 10 (B,L)

Today we delve into the rich history and scenic beauty of the Inverness area, exploring significant historical sites and landmarks. Start your day at Colloden Moor and Battlefield, the pivotal site of the last major battle on British soil learning about the 1746 clash between the Jacobites and British government forces. Visit Clava Cairns - these ancient Bronze Age burial cairns, experiencing the mystical atmosphere and pondering the lives of those who built them over 4,000 years ago. At Fort George we explore this 18th century fortress, still in use as an army barracks, and discover its military history and stunning views over the Moray Firth. Our final stop will be Cawdor Castle where you will be able to wander through the castle and beautiful gardens steeped in history and literary connections to Shakespeare's Macbeth.  Dinner on your own.  Overnight in Inverness

 

Wednesday, June 11 (B,L)

Today you will take a scenic journey along the Moray Coast, exploring its natural beauty and cultural gems. Begin your day with a tour of Knockando Wool Mill, a traditional wool mill to learn about the weaving process and Scotland's textile heritage. Visit Troup Head Nature Reserve, home to a variety of seabirds including puffins and enjoy stunning views of the cliffs and sea. Stop for lunch in Cullen, a charming seaside town known for its picturesque harbor and famous Cullen Skink soup. At Bow Fiddle Rock, you will see a dramatic, natural sea arch sculptured by the waves over many centuries. Then take a leisurely beach walk in the coastal village of Findhorn known for its sandy beaches and tranquil atmosphere.  Final Group Dinner.  Overnight in Inverness

Thursday, June 12 (B,L)

Today we explore the diverse landscapes and cultural landmarks as we journey back to Edinburgh. This adventure includes the chance to see sheepdog in action and visit some of the locations made famous by the Outlander series. Discover the natural beauty at Cairngorms National Park, Scotland's largest national park with its rugged mountains, ancient forests and abundant wildlife.  During a working Sheepdog Demonstration, we witness the skill of these intelligent dogs as they herd sheep in the Scottish Highlands. Step back into Scotland's past at the Highland Folk Museum, an open air museum showcasing traditional Highland life through historic buildings and exhibits. Visit the historic Doune Castle, famous for its appearance in the TV series "Outlander". Pause to admire the engineering marvels of the Forth Bridges, offering panoramic views across the Firth of Forth. See the iconic exterior of Midhope Castle (Lallybroch), known to "Outlander" fans as Lallybroch, Jamie Fraser's ancestral home. Our unforgettable journey through Scotland concludes as we arrive back in Edinburgh.  Dinner on your own.  Overnight night at Edinburgh Airport Hotel.

b. cancellation between 60 and 30 days before the tour start date: 50% (excluding non-refundable deposit and planning fee)

c. cancellation less than 30 days before the tour start date: No refund.

d. in the event of a ‘no show,’ you will be charged 100% of the price.
